Centrehouse is a Community Art and Leisure Centre in Lane Cove, on the north shore of Sydney. We are dedicated to the cultural and artistic development of the local community and are generously supported by the Lane Cove Council.
Centrehouse is a not-for-profit organisation that provides quality learning and creative experiences for adults and children of all ability and backgrounds. Providing an intimate and relaxed environment, we run classes in arts, craft, leisure and languages as well as art exhibitions for students, teachers, local children and for the youth of Australia. We are dedicated to fostering young people’s creative development and operate two special awards; an annual award for local young people (5-17) The Eve Vonwiller Youth Art Award and the bi-annual awards, Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Art Award (18-25).
For Kids.. we have our 9 week term program in art, craft and pottery classes which are run after school and our exciting school holiday workshops in tie dying, mask-making, poster-making, printing, collage and much more.
For Teenagers…our 9 week term program offers classes in contemporary art making and ceramics, while we offer street art, poster art and a range of craft classes during the school holidays.
For Adults and Seniors…our 9 week term program offers a range of art and craft courses in ceramics, watercolour painting, painting & drawing, mixed media, printmaking and abstract art; language classes including French, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin; and leisure classes in yoga and belly-dancing. Weekend workshops in calligraphy, knitting, crochet, pastels, book-binding, basket-weaving, felt-making and many more are a great way to learn something new and meet the locals.
For Artists…Centrehouse has two wonderful printing presses (one that was donated by the renowned local artist Elizabeth Rooney) that are set-up in their own studio space and are open to artists to hire. The pottery studio, complete with throwing wheels are also available for hire by individuals and kiln firing services are available to artists, although conditions apply.
Our classes are small and personal, our teachers are highly skilled practicing artists and craftspeople and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. |
